Tech Week (Or OH MY GOD THE SHOW IS COMING)

Hey guys! It's Riles, and I have BIG news. I finally have a break to write this, because the Fourth Of July is coming! YAY! It's time for hot-dogs and root beer floats! That's a nice break from Tech Week, which is TECH-nically (HA HA) Tech Fort-Night, since it is two weeks... I think I'm dying inside. Not like, emotionally, but physically. See, I'm in this theater camp, and usually, we have classes, like character creating and improv, and rehearsal in the afternoon. BUT, the last two weeks of camp, we have rehearsal ALL FREAKING DAY. IT IS EXHAUSTING. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the camp to PIECES, but this can be a little intense. It is all day. And also, tech week is when the directors get REAL pissed. Like, I'm talking if you flub a line, you get a lecture. Because the show is in like, a week. And they're worried. I mean, it's perfectly normal to be worried about something you love. But it is so tiring. Well, at least I have the day off tomorrow! YAY!

By the way. I GOT A GOOGLE+ PAGE! I'm called Riles Smiles, and my profile picture is a stuffed dumbo! So follow me! ALSO, I made a SPECIAL email just for this blog. It is therilespost@gmail.com. So you can email me without me getting stalked! (You never know WHOS on the internet!) I don't think any of you are stalkers, but..... you know...... THAT IS IS KK BYE

The Gabby Story...

Hey guys. Here's the story of Gabby and her moving. For her own perspective, click here. Anyway, it all began one day near the end of the school year...

We were in gym class, playing badminton, well, sitting down to play it, and I was talking to Gabby and Jenna about next year's Chamber Concert, which is basically at our school we have that instead of a talent show except it's all singing. I said maybe we could do the opening song from Tangled. Then Gabby said could we not talk about next year please. Then we had to sit down, and Gabby and Jenna were whispering to each other. When Gabby came to her spot, I asked what was up. She said later, at lunch. That was a Wednesday. On Wednesdays, we would always go up to our teacher Mrs. Mazur's room and help her organize stuff. So I waited. At lunch, I asked again, what's up? She told me. Her dad applied for a job. That wasn't too bad, but the job is in California. That's pretty much across the country.

Suddenly, time was going in slow motion. I am NOT kidding. I could hear crying, and realized it was coming from me. Well, not JUST me. We were all just crying. I went to the library after school. I immediately went to American Girl. I always sneered at all of the "If your friend is moving" stuff, but now I was reading all that I could. I needed reality. Well, not really. I needed to remember that I wasn't the only person this had happened to. That night, I went home and cried.

The weeks went on. I wished and wished that her dad wouldn't get the job. I mean, it would be great if he got the job, good for him, but it's in CALIFORNIA. I'm trying not to be bitter at California, because it's not California's fault that Gabby's moving there. Her dad got the job. Now we had to wait to see if he would get the pay he wanted. If he didn't get the payment he wanted, no California. If he did, bye bye Gabby. I remember we went outside to work on Social Studies one day, and there were so many dandelions, and I swear, Gabby and I must have blown out about 20 each, and EVERY SINGLE ONE we wished the same thing. Please don't let Gabby move. Please please please.

No luck. She told us a week or tow before school ended. They were still deciding on a moving day, but it was happening. Sometime over the summer. That night, I went home and cried. We spent the next 2 weeks saying good-bye and good-bye again. The last day of school, once we were done with school, Jenna, Gabby and I were just crying.

Move forward into a few weeks into the summer. I got a rogue Google+ message (NOT OLD ENOUGH FOR FB) from Abby. Not Gabby. Well, not actually not a MESSAGE. An INVITATION. To Gabby's surprise going away party. It was the next Friday. Well, until Abby learned that was Gabby's brother's birthday, so it was postponed until the NEXT next Friday. The day arrived. It was my last guitar lesson too. I had to rush to Abby's house. It was my first surprise party. 12 years on this here Earth, and I don't go to ONE surprise party. Well, until now. It was pretty fun. Everyone got Gabby something, except for me. I already gave her my present. It was this....

Yeah.... she got a plant, lots of cards, candy for the road (it takes about 2 days to get there) and tabloids. You know, People and stuff, and also those "teen" magazines. Like Girl's Life, and Teen Vogue. It was fun, We had soda, popcorn, M&Ms, Gummy Bears, and watched the babysitting adventure. It was really late when I got home, and I started crying. Gabby also said that her mom and dad said they're moving July 17.

Another week went by, and randomly, out of the blue, I was listening to some Taylor Swift and Stay Stay Stay came on, and I remembered that Gabby sang that song at the chamber concert this year, and then I switched it to another song, but I remembered that Gabby introduced me to Taylor Swift, and then I hugged Cheeto, my own Squishable, but I remembered that I got Gabby a Squishable. So I hugged my stuffed manga cat, Mouschi, but I remembered that GABBY named Mouschi! And I just started crying. And then that's it so far. I'll do more updates soon. Stay tuned. :(

SUMMER!!!

Hey guys! I am SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO sorry about the lack of updates! Please Don't leave me!! I PROMISE that I will update at least weekly. It will be easier 'cause I've learned how to manage my time since last posting.. PLUS... it's SUMMER!!! Ok!!! Onto the post!!!

UPDATE! ...OR WHAT THE HECK HAS RILES BEEN DOING?

Ok... My last post was May 13, 2013. Now it is June 30, 2013. That's more than a month to cover, in ONE post. That's cray cray! OK!!!! Let's start with the school stuff....

We started our last rotation of gym in school. It was badminton. But that was also sad, because that was the gym class when I found out my other BESTY Gabby is moving. This is kind of a hard topic to talk about... I might do it in another post, but right now, I just... not right now....

ANYWAY... School was not really that interesting, just a bunch of math and reading. Speaking of math, I flunked the math final, and so got a C in math. The last day of school was fun, we had a field day. I played silent ball. Sorcha hit Jenna's sunglasses by mistake, and got out 'cause she talked. At lunch, Sorcha sat somewhere else besides our normal table. In the afternoon we got awards. I got the Shakespeare award. I don't even know what that means.... Then it was summer, and time to move on with life! (Or at least sixth grade)

The week after school was out, I started doing CAST, an acting camp. I made a lot of new friends, including LILA, who is now one of ma BEST friends, Fiona from my French class, and Rufus, who is, well, RUFUS. and many many others! I am in The Secret World Of Og! Also, Abby had a going away party for Gabby, and I had so much fun!!!! We watched Babysitting Adventures and had gummy bears and milkshakes. But I got home around 11, and then in bed, I cried.

YES! I am not afraid to tell people on the internet that I cried! I think that I should be in touch with my feelings! God that was cheesy....

ANYWAY! Now I am living a good happy(?) life! SORT of.... Anyway! I PROMISE I WILL HAVE MORE UPDATES SOON!

XOXO

The Universe is Full of Cookies

So.. you're probably wondering what that blog title is about...  well, it is not a metaphor for anything like, the cookies are, therefore WE are. It is literally what I realized a few days after I posted my last post. The universe is full of bad stuff, sure, like depression, and embarrassment  but the universe is also full of magical, wonderful things, like Doctor Who, Youtube, cookies, and candy. Last post I was dwelling in the past, the post before that I was dwelling in the future, but now I am going to be living in the now! (Or at least writing in the now...) SO... Let's get this party started!

So, today is a normal Wednesday (By the way, I pronounce it Wed-nes-day, instead of Whendsday) I've got some homework due... and some fun with friends ahead! The one thing I don't like, and am HORRID at is math. I cannot understand why math exists. (Ok, I understand WHY it exists but still.) When in my life am I EVER going to use what we are learning now? (Which is algebra like y=22x-68) Unless we get a job as a math teacher, or an accountant, or something like that, which I am NOT. GOING. TO. DO. Sorry to all those people who like those professions, but they are just not for me.

Actually, I had to stop writing this post there for the day, because then I had to go to school. It actually wasn't that bad, because I am thinking of all the cookies in this universe, and all parallel universes. I'm not going to be bogged down by homework, or friendship troubles, or all of the little things that don't matter. I'm on top of the world, and I'm unstoppable!

Life and Stuff

So, recently I've been reflecting on my existence, why I am on this planet, that kind of thing. And I realized that there is a lot of stuff I want to do in my life. I want to freak out strangers, and do tons of awesome once in a lifetime things. So, I've devised a list. (You're reading the blog of the BIGGEST nerd ever, remember?) Here it is. (By the way, some things I got off the internet, so don't say stuff like, "Oh my god! You totally ripped off _____ they posted this and now you're saying you came up with it!!!" I'm not. I just got inspired by it and thought they were good ideas.)

My Bucket List:

  • Run into a store. Ask what year it is. When they answer, yell, "IT WORKED!" and run out cheering.
  • Empty out a mayonnaise jar, and fill it with vanilla pudding or yogurt. Eat in public.
  • Play real life bus stop. (The theater game where you act to try to get someone off their bus stop seat. In real life, the other person doesn't know I'm just acting!)
  • Say, "Follow that Monkey!" in real life, not just being silly.
  • While in an elevator, meow occasionally.
  • When I get a job, call someone into my office, and turn the chair around so its facing away from the door. When they come in, say, "I'm sure you're wondering why you're here."
  • Visit England.
  • Witness an Eclipse
  • Write a best seller novel
  • Be on a Jumbo Tron for something insanely stupid/weird

  • Work at a restaurant. On Valentines day, put a fake engagement ring in a random girl's drink.
  • Put someone's phone number in a random product at a store
  • When I'm older but don't have kids yet, call a babysitter. Tell him/her the kid is upstairs. When I get back, ask where the kid is.
  • Crash a Party
  • Order something from an infomercial that I have no need for and is really stupid.
  • Spend an entire day walking backwards
  • Put a crazy item in a random person's shopping cart
  • Go zip lining
  • Go to a Broadway show
  • Send a message in a bottle
  • Add hair dye to shampoo
  • Buy as many books as I possibly can in one trip

What is a Nerd?

If you have had an internet connection (Which you obviously do if you're reading this) or have entered any Claire's Justice or other "girl" store in the past year or so, you will have noticed that a lot of girls have been just putting on over sized glasses and calling themselves nerds. Saying stuff like, "I'm like, a total nerd and gamer girl, LOL!" This angers me. A LOT. Let me tell you about why.

I have no problem with these girls becoming nerds and gamer girls. The thing is, is that they think that because they bought some "nerd" glasses and play Angry Birds on their iPhone that they are a nerd and a gamer girl. Which is NOT true in the slightest! I don't know who is reading this, but I'm assuming that if you're following my blog, or you like to read it, you're probably at least a little nerdy and annoyed by what these girls do.

The thing is, most people are born nerdy. They find out of their nerdiness early on, or sometimes later, and they embrace it, either by school and math, nerdy t shirts and Doctor Who, nerdy drawings, nerdy comics, or another form of "nerdiness". Some people I am sad to say, squash their nerdiness down. They are so eager to become popular, they squish their smarts and nerdiness down until it is nonexistent. They make sure that they are Dumb Danielles and Stupid Saras. I makes me sad. But then, there is the final group, the people who were born the bad kind of popular, the Barbies if you will. They are the ones who put on the glasses, and call themselves nerds.

The thing is, though it is possible, going from that state of Barbie esq popularity to a nerd is challenging. They need hard work and dedication, which is rarely what these girls are known for. Don't get me wrong! Plenty of Barbies have changed their ways and come to the nerd side, its just that most of them think it would be easier to be popular, and put on a pair of glasses.

To become a nerd, you need to surround yourself with nerdy culture. Throw away the stuff you bought only to be popular. I don't care if its a poster of a hot movie star, the Twilight series, or a giant snow cone machine, if you don't use it, don't want it, and don't know why you got it, then THROW IT OUT. You need to find out what kind of nerd you are. Are you Creative Nerd, Gamer Nerd, Math/Other School Nerd, Book Nerd, Comic Nerd, Doctor Who Nerd, Fangirl Nerd, or other type of nerd. Keep in mind that you can be a mix of these nerds. To find out which one you are, you need to try a few of them. Watch an episode of Doctor Who, see if drawing is your thing, buy a few nerdy t shirts, buy a gaming system/games (I personally recommend PS3 and Portal 2), Go to your comic book shop, read a book that you want to read, and see if any of them strikes your interest. Once you figure it out, the real fun begins.

Now, you get to find out everything you possibly can about your chosen nerd type. Creative Nerds can know everything there is to know about Manga, Gamer Nerds can research the best gaming system, book nerds can look up books and their authors. Keep in mind that many of you will start to feel very excited and might start screaming at all the different events and places there are for people like you, and the people who are famous for your chosen nerd type might become suddenly super amazing and awesome. Keep in mind that this is normal. You are just experiencing "fangirling" which is quite normal for girls who are nerds.  Not all nerds are fangirls, but many are (Like me for instance).

After you've done that, then just have fun! You on the road to nerdiness. Go to an event, visit a bookstore, get an autograph. If you keep at it, the world will have another nerd.

Ok, enough with the self help talk. It is true that you can become a nerd if you were a Barbie, but few do. They just prefer their popularity. They might actually enjoy the things "popular girls" enjoy more than they enjoy nerdy things, and that is FINE. I am glad if there is one more nerd in the world, but if that is not what the person wants, then that is their decision. I am not going to force them to be a nerd. Ok then... looks like I wrote a whole post on nerds. Well, this post is getting WAY too long, so I'm going to sign out. Byeas!!!!

Hello Universe! (Or at Least the Part of You Reading my Blog)

Hey hey everyone! Its me, Riles of Smiles, and I am starting a blog! Now, first of all, I am going to tell you what I am going to be blogging about. Anything really! I will just blog about what's going on in my head, and that kind of stuff. Now, the Chronicles of Me is the title of  my blog, because I've always wanted to write my own biography. Now I can kind of do that, except that I'm starting 12 years after I was born... but just ignore that little fact! I mean, who really wants to learn about when I was like a year old? NOBODY! If you couldn't tell I'm REALLY random!!!!

Ok... So I'm Riles of Smiles. I chose that name because my first name is Riles, and I smile ALL THE TIME!!! I'm usually just going to go by Riles. I'm going to write in this one at least once a week. Even if its just rambling. That's kind of what I'm doing now though. BUT WHATEVER!!!

Sometimes I'll do book reviews or game review, just because I bought a game or a book and I want to tell the world what I think of it. My posts probably won't be that long, because I don't really go into detail of what I'm doing and all of that, I like it short and/or sweet. Right now this post is in this really bland font, but I'm going to change that, and make it "Chewy" font. Also, I need to tell you that I'm a huge nerd, so expect some long winded arguments about nerdy stuff that nobody cares about but me. Its ok, I'm used to it. Nobody gets my references

Also, I'm not going to mention stuff like how my blog looks, because I don't know if its still going to look that way in a year. Also, no celebrity gossip, like Justin Bieber got married or whatever. NO JUSTIN BIEBER!!! I might mention world or national news (I live in the US. I figured it was ok to tell you this because nobody is going to read this anyway, and also the US is huge. I mean, you don't even know what state I live in, let alone what county, let alone what city/town, let alone what street, let alone what apartment/condo/house I live in!)

Ok so right now you're probably all bored and saying stuff like "We don't care about you telling us what you're going to blog about, just blog about it already!" Well jeez, aren't you pushy? Its ok. I know I shouldn't go on and on about what I'm going to be blogging about, so now I'm going to stop writing this post, and start working on a new one! I work really hard on my posts, I've been working on this one for like 5 days. I don't really have a lot of time, so I just write tidbits here and there. I'm going to try to post stuff once a week, but keep in mind if its a long winded post that has lots of information in it, Its going to take a lot longer. So, just hold tight ok? I'm sure if you're a good audience who is all nice and happy, you will wait patiently. I know how hard it is to wait for someone to post something! Just trust me when I say that it is because of a good reason. AARGH!!! Why am I just talking and talking and talking??? I'm going to stop now. Byeas! :)
